New gear Sunday. More tunes & more hydration the @oldguywhotris!

The new Jlab wireless Epic Elite earphones were a big step up from the standard iphone earbuds that I have been using for years.  No more dangling wires, earbuds falling out of my ears, and excessive outside noise from traffic etc.  Plus, a much better bass performance.  The only issue I have found is that they lose bluetooth connection often especially at the beginning of the run and at the end when I stop running.  Not sure why.

I decided to try a hydration running belt because I felt like I could control my hydration and nutrition intake on the run better than picking up whatever from aid stations.  As I looked back on races, I had really no idea how many carbs, sodium, hydration, etc. I was taking in.  My thought is with the new belt, I can have all my nutrition on board as well as my hydration.  I can plan a consistent nutrition and hydration plan in advance and look back to see how that worked for me.

Of course, I had trepidation about bounding about with dual flasks on my hips.  Sure enough, the first half mile was a bit unsettling and unwieldy.  However, after that, I settled into how it felt and found my groove.

The new nutrition system seemed to work well as I accomplished my fastest 10 mile run of the year so far.  I was able to fuel more consistently and truly felt like I was never running on an empty tank, but rather was able to feel a more consistent flow of energy into my legs.

All in all, a win.
