Surrounded By Triathlon Legends

Met legends today. On my right with the glasses is Gordon Haller the first person to win Ironman triathlon in Hawaii in 1978. Which means he actually was the first person ever to become an Ironman. In my hands is the actual trophy from 1978. The guy on my left with the white hair is John Howard who won the race in 1981. John told me he also set the bicycle land speed record at 152 miles per hour. On Johns left is John and Judy Collins who cooked up the whole idea of the first Ironman race. Mr. Collins welded and made the trophy himself. All the way to my right is Bob Babbit the original publisher of Competitor magazine and also one of the original Ironman competitors back in the day. Amazing who you can meet at a potluck in San Diego.
