This weekend was Labor Day which means sales on gear. I had yet to purchase any triathlon clothing so the retail offers that flew past my emails and facebook ads were appealing to say the least.
One in particular spoke loudest from the Pearl Izumi outlet store in San Clemente. 25% off all marked prices including sale items. Since I had a trip up to Los Angeles, and back, I stopped by the store hunting for tri-shorts and a tri-top from the sale racks. I was 50% victorious walking away with the bottom 50%.
I had never shopped for tri-shorts before. They are designed to be worn under your wetsuit during the swim. You then rip your wetsuit off, hop on you bike, and go. No stopping for changing in a tent or moments of public nudity. This means that the pad between you and your bike seat cannot be thick like normal bike shorts. It is much thinner.

This means that the pad between you and your bike seat cannot be thick like normal bike shorts. It is much, much thinner. It is designed to quickly dry out as opposed to riding on a soggy, wet, diaper for the next few hours.
As you can see in the photo below, the tri-shorts pad on the left it is also much narrower and not as long. Less coverage and less cush for the tush. I am trusting the triathlon gods that this has been tested and approved by bottoms worldwide.
