I am now four months into the injury to my Sesamoid bone in my left foot. No cycling and no running for four months. Only swimming. I have/will miss all three of the triathlons that I signed up for. I was definitely derailed from my original 70.3 Ironman Canada target, but have great hopes of hitting my new target of 70.3 Ironman Austin on October 29th.
The new target received a positive step forward this week as I am happy to announce that I think I am very close to being pain-free. Today, I received and started wearing prescription orthotics as part of my road back to training. Fitted to both my running shoes and my cycling shoes, they are promised to relieve stress from the wounded area and also support my higher than average arches. I plan on holding these doctors to their promise.
The orthotics certainly feel very weird right now and things seem to be sticking up into my feet where they shouldn’t. The doctor assures me that is the way they are supposed to feel at first. He says it will take at least a week to get my feet used to them just by walking around. Cycling or running is probably a bit farther off than a week for sure. However, it is nice to at least think that I am on the road to recovery. I may be lying to myself, but I am ok with that.
