Fracturing The 13 Minute 500 Yard Swim – 25% Mo Faster!

With my foot in a boot, running and cycling is out of the question.  However, Mr. Glass Half Full looks on this setback as an opportunity to focus on my weakness which is swimming.  It is all I can do.

Today, I ventured back into the pool after an incredible session with my new coach Julie two days ago.  During our last session, she made two adjustments, but I didn’t have enough time to test them out to see how they really impacted my speed.  Today, was that day.

First, let’s ground us in where my performance was just a few days earlier.  On Sunday I swam three sets of 500-yard intervals.  The results are listed below.  The 16:25 time was my fastest 500-yard interval in my life.

17.4.9 times

How good was the coaching from my “elite” triathlon coach?  25% faster!!!  Crushed it.  As you can see in my previous times above, I get slower later in the swim in successive intervals.  However, as you can see below, I never returned to anything less than a 13% improvement.

17.4.12 times

Keep in mind, no kicking either.  Doctors orders and coach instructed.
