Breakthrough Swim Day #5 – The Mile Milestone Just A Few Strokes Away

Ten days ago the moment everyone told me I would have happened and I was actually able to continue swimming for the first time in my life.  That day I swam 1,000 yards.  My earlier report said meters as I believed the pool was a 25-meter pool.  This past weekend I measured the pool and found that it is 25 yards.  Since then I have changed the Garmin to track yards instead of meters.  My bad, but not a bad swim day.  Just 3 or so inches less per yard is all.

Last Friday I hit the pool again and pushed it a little further to 1,400 yards.  Once I was finished, I felt I probably could have done more, but I opted to get in a 5 mile run after the swim trying to work on that transition to one of the other triathlon sports in the same workout.

Today, I was thinking of a similar dual sports workout.  However, I was late getting back from client meetings which gave me the opportunity to focus just on the swim.  Just on making some personal history happen.  Remember, our goal here is 1.2 miles for the swim at the 70.3 Ironman Canada.  That is about 2,000 yards.  Little, by little, I am trying to inch my way toward that goal and today we achieved another aqua induced leap reaching the 1,600-yard mark.  Just 4 laps shy of the infamous 1-mile milestone.

The distance is within reach.  I can taste it now.  It tastes like chlorine, but still, I can taste it.
