Headed to the gym at 6AM hoping to hit the core hard today. My kid bought me a Strength Training for Triathletes book for Christmas and it had a bunch of new exercises to build the core and strengthen some other areas. Today ended up being a long list and a lot of reps (See entire workout below. Total weight seems quite inflated. I will have to learn more about this app and make adjustments.), but I think if I do this one big core workout and two smaller ones each week it will be a big help for the endurance and avoiding injury.
I also swam 40 laps in the gym pool sans wetsuit. It is definitely a little harder workout without my bouyant neoprene second skin.
Here is a short video (quite boring actually) of one of my favorite core exercises. The Plank is quite popular for people building their core. However, I put a little twist on it that I learned somewhere along the way and made it into a Walking Plank. Basically, you get into a plank position, take a step to the right and then walk over to a step to the left while holding the plank position. Currently, I am doing 15 reps per set for a total of 3 sets and 45 reps.
